Trains and Railways in Germany
If you've made it to Germany, I expect that you can find your way around the train system fairly well but here are a few tips and hints that may help to ease your rail travel in Germany.

Deutsche Bahn is still the monopoly operator but there are continuous plans and proposals to change that. It may happen one day but for now, they are the only game in town.

Back at the end of the 20th century, Deutsche Bahn was running one of the best train services in the world. A decade of underinvestment and managerial ineptitude has worsened that but, in comparison to many other countries they are still not bad.

One major gripe is that the ticketing system is way too complex and the staff are generally unable, or unwilling, to help you to get the best deal for your journey.
