Driving safely can be tricky, when it comes to killing themselves and others on the roads, New Zealanders are up there with the worst of them. Even though road deaths are currently on a gentle down-slope, when viewed in terms of deaths per capita, the country is among the worst in the developed world.
An alternative view would be this:
New Zealand has the highest car ownership per capita in the world. Seen in terms of deaths per car, New Zealand's road network is no longer so dangerous.
