Vina Tinajas Cabernet Merlot 2007, Chile
We tried this back to back with another bottle of the single varietal Cab Sav from the same firm. The latter is much better but then it costs about 60% more. The thing is though that the difference amounts to only one and a half Euros and you are getting a vastly superior wine.

OK, that's enough of the comparison - now back to this one - the Cab Sav/Merlot blend.

It is a little lighter and a shade more acid - you would expect that from the addition of the Merlot grapes - and it has mostly red berry flavours. While the colour is similarly dark and purple to the Cab Sav, the texture is nowhere near as smooth and creamy. If you are really stuck at the two and a half Euros price point then go for it but I'd rather stump up the extra.

Wine rating 5/10. Value: good
