Piemont Barbera 2000
It's so nice when you pull a cork and out comes an aroma that says drink me now.

When I poured a glass, the colour of the wine was not so appealing. There was a slight brown tinge that suggested something that was past its best but on tasting it, there was no such worry. The wine had a lovely well rounded taste with the right amount of acidity.

The only thing that was lacking was the fact that I'd never have guessed that it was made from the Barbera grape. Indeed, it tasted rather more like a Merlot. That's not a bad thing in itself but if you wanted the smoky taste that normally comes with this grape variety you might wonder what had happened.

Wine rating 6/10. Value rating +1
