Van de Kaap 2008 Pinotage
Well, this turned up on the table just a week after the Beaujolais En Primeur so that made for an interesting comparison.

It had at least finished fermenting which was a step up on all of the other wines that we have tried En Primeur this year.

Anyway, it turns out that you can make fresh and fruity tasting wine with rough edges from Pinotage grapes as well as from the Gamay variety that is used in Beaujolais.

The fruitiness is a mix of plums and red berries which is interesting too. Like its French cousin, it is OK once a year but no more.

Wine rating 4/10. Value rating: fair
